Police: Roanoke Co. homeowner shoots 27-year-old trying to rob his home

ROANOKE Co., Va. (WSET) -- Roanoke County Police said a man tried to rob a home in Roanoke County but was instead shot dead.

Police said officers were called to the report of a shooting in the 6000 block of Carefree Lane around 8:55 p.m. Sunday, February 24.

When they got there, they found that a man had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by Roanoke County Fire and Rescue.

After investigating, police said Frankie E. Cordova, 27, of Roanoke, tried to rob the home.

The homeowner was able to fire his own weapon, killing Cordova in the process.

No charges have been placed at this time.

The case is still under investigation and police said they won't be releasing any other details for now.
