Police: 56-year-old man killed in Roanoke shooting

UPDATE 4:38 p.m.

Roanoke Police say a man died in a shooting Thursday morning.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Patterson Avenue SW to investigate the shooting just before 6:15 a.m.

They say Daniel F. Liptak, 56, of Roanoke, was found in the front yard of a house, and had been shot in his lower body.

According to police, Liptak was conscious when they arrived.

He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead before 7 a.m., police say.

According to police, witnesses saw two men running from the scene.
