Police: Man with gunshot wound dies, investigation underway


UPDATE 8:58 p.m.

Roanoke Police say the man who was shot and sent to the hospital Friday has died.

They say he was pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m.

Police know his identity, but it has not been released yet.

His body will be sent to the Medical Examiner's Office.

No arrests have been made.

ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) - Roanoke Police say a man is in the hospital with a gunshot wound after an incident Friday.

Officials say police went to 24th Street Northwest at Salem Turnpike for a two-vehicle crash.

Roanoke Fire and EMS also responded to the scene, and found the man in the car had a gunshot wound, officials say.

Police say the man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police don't believe the crash is connected to the man's gunshot wound at this time.

Officials with forensics unit are on scene investigating.
