Police: Men bought phones with altered bar codes using gift cards bought with stolen card

BEDFORD, Va. (WSET) -- The Town of Bedford Police Department is looking for help identifying two men accused of fraud.

Police said two men altered bar codes on five Samsung cell phones before buying them with gift cards at the Walmart in Bedford on November 18 around 3 a.m.

They said the gift cards used to buy the phones were previously purchased at a separate location with a stolen debit card.

Investigators said after the suspect successfully bought the cell phones at altered prices, they bought several more gift cards using a stolen debit card.

Police said the total loss, including the cell phones and gift cards, is $2,800.
