Police: Man who went on crime spree leaving 1 dead, officer shot now charged with murder

CAMPBELL Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Campbell County Sheriff's Office said the man who went on a crime spree over the weekend, killing one and leading police on a chase is now charged.

Tony Allen Kidd is charged with the second degree murder of Robin Chenault after he was arrested on Tuesday, October 9.

He's also charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of murder.

Documents from Campbell County Juvenile and Domestic Court shows Kidd was released from jail Friday night on a $2,500 unsecured bond after being arrested and charged with domestic assault.

Kidd is accused of killing Robin and shooting her husband, Dale, before fleeing their home in their truck.

After deputies found the Chenault's in their home, they put a 'Be on the Lookout' for Kidd in the stolen vehicle.

A Lynchburg Police officers spotted the vehicle and a pursuit started.

Officials say the pursuit continued into Campbell County and ended when Kidd crashed his car in he Candlers Mountain Road and Sunnymeade Road area.

Police say following the crash, gunfire was exchanged between Kidd and officers.

Both Kidd and an officer were shot and transported to Lynchburg General Hospital and a K9 was injured in the incident.

Dale Chenault is still recovering in the hospital.

The Lynchburg Police Department say they have asked Virginia State Police to investigate to officer involved shooting.
