Police: Man charged with reckless driving after woman dies in Amherst Co. crash
MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police said they are investigating a fatal crash in Amherst County that left a woman dead.
Police responded to the intersection of Route 130 and Dixie Airport Road around 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, July 10 after two vehicle collided.
State Police said Linda B. Perry, 63, Madison Height was driving east on Route 130 and started to make a left turn onto Dixie Airport Road.
As Perry was turning, police said Russell G.M. Lynch, 37, of Appomattox was driving west on Route 130 and failed to stop for a red light.
Police said Lynch continued into the intersection and hit Perry, which caused her vehicle to spin around and overturn on its roof.
Perry was trapped in her vehicle and eventually pulled out by rescue workers, who then immediately started to administer CPR.
She was flown to UVA Medical Center where she later died, police said.
State Police said Perry was not wearing her seatbelt.
Lynch was not injured in the crash and was wearing a seat belt -- he's been charged with reckless driving.
