Police: Local elementary school teacher showed up to work intoxicated

MONTGOMERY Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating after they got a call about a teacher showing up to work "under the influence."

Montgomery County Public Schools Human Resources contacted the sheriff's office around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday requesting officers to meet them at Montgomery Elementary School to deal with the teacher.

Once deputies responded, they met with school staff and Chelsea Carter, 26, of Wytheville, in the principal's office.

Based on the information provided by school staff and observations by deputies on the scene, the sheriff's office said Carter was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Carter was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and was released on bond around 3:30 p.m.

Montgomery County Public Schools confirmed Carter was an employee at Eastern Montgomery Elementary School, but is "is no longer an employee with MCPS."
