Police: At least 2 dead in I-81 crash, road back open
UPDATE: 4:50 p.m.
VDOT said I-81 will be opened around 5 p.m. after a deadly accident.
State Police said victims will be identified after troopers are able to notify family members.
UPDATE: 3:15 p.m.
State Police said at least two people have died after the accident on I-81 around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said two other people were flown from the scene with life-threatening injuries.
They said the road is still blocked and will remain blocked until reconstruction is completed, which could be another hour.
VDOT is detouring southbound traffic off the Interstate at the 141 exit.
The 140 southbound entrance ramp is also blocked to keep traffic from the scene of the crash.
All traffic is diverted to Route 11 and may get back on the Interstate at Exit 137.
ROANOKE Co., Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police are working a two vehicle crash southbound on Interstate 81 at the 141 mile marker.
According to officials, the crash occurred around 11:14 a.m. Wednesday.
The southbound side of Interstate 81 is closed and will remain closed for two hours while the investigation is completed.
The Virginia State Police and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation will be assisting with the crash investigation.
