Police: Dog owner charged after attack on smaller dog downtown

Police said a man walking a German Shepherd in downtown Lynchburg refused to give information after his dog attacked a Maltese (LPD)

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A Lynchburg man is facing charges after police said his dog attacked another dog in downtown Lynchburg over the weekend.

A photo was shared on social media of a man walking a German Shepherd in downtown Lynchburg that had just attacked a smaller dog.

Police said the smaller dog, a Maltese, was taken to an emergency clinic where he had to get stitches due to lacerations on his neck.

Court records show that Joshua Standeven is charged with having a public nuisance dog.

The man in the photo being shared is not Standeven, but was the man walking the dog when the incident happened.

An animal control officer says the victim's dog is expected to make a full recovery.
