Police: 8 students taken to hospital after bus, car collide; bus driver charged

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WSET) -- Eight students were taken to the hospital after a vehicle hit a school bus in Virginia Beach Thursday morning.

Police have charged the school bus driver with failure to yield the right of way.

It happened around 7 a.m. on South Independence Boulevard, according to WVEC, which led to the road being closed.

A spokesperson for the school system said 34 students were on the bus and headed to Shelton Park Elementary School.

One adult and two children who were in the car were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
