Police: Drone search helps recover man found dead in Dan River
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- The Danville Police Department said a man has been found dead in the Dan River.
Police, along with the Danville Fire Department and Danville Life Saving Crew responded to the Dan River at Camilla Williams Park on Memorial Drive around 10:04 a.m. Friday.
Witnesses said a man had entered the water and could no longer be seen.
According to police, a search of the river bank was started in accessible areas down to the Union Street Bridge. They said personnel were also watching the river in several areas down to the pedestrian bridge.
Police said a drone located the victim just off the river bank.
Family members identified the victim as Alonza Gunn. He was found just 100 yards from a KFC restaurant nearby.
According to police, there will be no further investigation.
