Police: 83-year-old bus driver charged after crash that sent 10 juveniles to hospital
UPDATE: 3:55 p.m.
Virginia State Police said it's investigating a two vehicle crash, involving a Pittsylvania County school bus, that happened around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 24.
Police said the bus driver failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn from Oakland Drive onto Mount Cross Road and was hit by a driver in a pickup truck.
The bus driver, identified as John Henry Patterson, 83, of Danville was not injured.
There were 18 kids on the bus, eight were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 17-year-old boy, was wearing his seatbelt and was also taken to the hospital for his injuries, also his passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital in Danville.
Patterson has been charged with failure to yield the right of way.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
PITTSYLVANIA Co., Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police are investigating a school bus crash with another vehicle in Pittsylvania County.
According to officials, the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday on Oakland Drive.
They said eight children were transported to the hospital to be checked out for non-life threatening injuries. One other person was transported from the other vehicle, totaling 9 injuries.
The ages and the number of children on the bus are unknown at this time.
