Police: 1 person killed in Franklin Co. crash


FRANKLIN Co., Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Friday.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Route 788 at Dry Hill Road, one half of a mile north of Route 40 at Old Franklin Turnpike in Franklin County.

They said a car was traveling north on Route 788 when it ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, by Roberta Austin Crowe, 69, of Ferrum, VA died at the scene. Officials said she was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
