Police: Pilot dead after plane crashes shortly after takeoff from Va. airport
UPDATE: 12:30 p.m.
Virginia State Police said the pilot was bound for Farmingdale, New York when the single-engine plane went down around 7:30 a.m.
The plane caught fire after the crash.
Heavy fog was reported in the area at the time of the crash.
The FAA is also investigating.
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WSET) -- Police in Chesapake said they received a call Tuesday morning of an airplane crash at the Chesapeake Reigonal Airport.
WVEC reports that the airplane, which appears to be a single engine Cessna type of aircraft, crashed into a field approximately .3 mile beyond the end of the runway.
They said after the impact, the airplane caught fire and burned.
One person is confirmed dead.
According to police, the investigation is ongoing.
