Officials: Ringgold man allegedly shoots father

UPDATE: Pittsylvania Co. Police say they received a 911 call from the 800 block of Neal Davis Road in Ringgold.

The caller said someone had been shot at the residence.

Deputies say they arrived to find a deceased white male at the scene, who was identified as 41-year-old David Christopher Long of Roxboro, North Carolina.

Zackary Brandon Long, 22, of Neal Davis Road was arrested at the scene and deputies say was the son of the deceased.

Zackary Long was charged with one count of 1st degree murder.

Officials say firearm in the commission of a felony charges are forthcoming against Zackary Long.

He is currently being held in Pittsylvania County Jail without bond.

Officials say the body will be transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke to determine the cause and manner of death.

Investigators are still at the scene to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

There were no other injuries reported during the incident.


RINGGOLD, Va. (WSET) -- The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in Ringgold Friday night.

Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor said the shooting happened on Neal Davis Road.

It is unclear at this time the details of the shooting and how many people were injured.

Sheriff Taylor said Saturday morning that they would be releasing more information about the shooting soon.
