RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- A pit bull is fighting for his life in Richmond after police said he was tied to a pole and set on fire.
Now, they're on the hunt for the person responsible.
Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) said the male brindle pit bull was tied to a pole in Abner Clay Park around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, covered in an accelerant, and intentionally set on fire.
Police said witnesses reported seeing a man run from the scene after the incident.
RACC has named the pup Tommie and he's currently being treated for burns to more than 40 percent of his body at Virginia Veterinary Centers.
"We are all hoping that we might be able to save him. Please consider making a donation to our RACC Foundation towards the cost of his vet care," they wrote on Facebook. "It will be a long and expensive road to recovery for this sweet dog."
Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
