ALTAVISTA, Va. (WSET) -- The Altavista Police Department is investigating several people associated with Altavista EMS.

Chief Mike Milnor said there are no warrants filed, and no pending charges, it's just the start of the investigation.

He said this is not an investigation into the EMS Center itself, but rather people associated with it.

Chief Milnor said the investigation was spurred by an accidental release of preliminary investigation notes which contained misleading information, as well as complaints about the EMS department.

The Campbell County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and the Virginia Attorney General's Office is assisting with the investigation.

In March, the EMS closed its doors after the operational medical doctor suddenly resigned and in order for an EMS crew to legally operate, they must have a medical doctor, and since they're unable to find a replacement, they had to stop operating.

10 people lost their jobs and 30 volunteers had to go somewhere else.

Campbell County Public Safety took over all the calls to Altavista.
