Officials: Man chased in pursuit after mother, son killed in shooting

NEW KENT Co., Va. (WSET) -- Derrell Williams was arrested after leading police on a 130 mph pursuit after a woman and her son were shot during a domestic dispute Saturday morning.

WTVR reports that police found the woman and her son suffering from trauma. They said the woman, 32-year-old Renita Shantel Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to officials, her son, high school student, later died of his injuries at an area hospital.

Crime Insider sources said the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation.

They said that Renita Williams was fatally shot and her son was wounded while protecting her.

Sources said Derrell Williams is the suspect in the double shooting.

According to State Troopers, Williams was driving erratically and swerving across the center line of the road shortly after. Officials said he tried to escape police, he lost control, spun out on the highway and ran on foot.

They said he was later caught by troopers and that cocaine and a handgun were in his vehicle.

According to officials, Williams is facing a list of charges, but has not yet been charged in connection with the double shooting.
