Officials: Fire killed more than 30 pets while family was on vacation

HANOVER Co., Va. (WSET) -- A fire in Hanover County destroyed a family's home and killed over 30 of their pets.

Officials say firefighters only found ruins when they arrived on the scene. They say they do not know when the fire happened.

WRIC reported that the family that lived in the home were on vacation at the time of the fire.

Officials did not say exactly how many of the pets died in the fire. However, the father shared that over 30 animals such as pet rabbits, birds, lizards and hamsters were inside .

The Hanover Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the matter although they say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help raise money for the family.
