A speeding stop led to an officer-involved shooting in the Rich Patch community of Alleghany County overnight.

Virginia State Police said the incident began around 11:30 Thursday night when an Alleghany County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a vehicle for speeding on I-64, mile marker 20.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene, and the suspect was asked to exit the vehicle.

That's when, troopers say, the man fled the traffic stop in a 2005 Toyota Camry and a pursuit ensued.

Deputies conducted a rolling road block to stop the vehicle, and the suspect reportedly fired a shot at deputies.
