Governor Northam and the Virginia Emergency Support Team will hold a press briefing Thursday.

Northam is expected to provide updates on the Commonwealth’s response to COVID-19 and the vaccination program at 2 p.m.

On Wednesday, he stated that over 5,000 Virginians have lost their lives to COVID-19.

However, he said that Virginia is equipped to limit the number of additional lives lost.

"The vaccines are our way out of this pandemic," Northam said.

Northam said that vaccinating teachers and other K-12 staff is a crucial step to reopen schools. He said that while Virginia is not immune to the pandemic, the Commonwealth is doing better than many other states when it comes to administering vaccines, with Virginia falling behind just nine larger states.
