New ordinance keeps dogs from being tied up for a long time
ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) -- There are now new guidelines for dog owners in Roanoke.
As of July 1, dogs cannot be tied up to anything for more than three hours and no dog can be tied up after 10 p.m. or before 6 a.m.
Dogs injured, in heat, or under four-months-old can't be tethered ever.
The city says they hope this new ordinance gets families to bring their dogs in and make them a part of the family.
Animal control officers also plan to work with families to get dogs off chains.
