BUCHANAN, Va. (WSET) -- New Freedom Farm will host the official grand opening/reception of a new veteran center after three years.
The opening will be on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the new farm located at 6118 Lithia Road in Buchanan from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
New Freedom Farm says this is possible "after three years of hard work from volunteers and 100% donations," according to a press release.
In addition, since October 6, 2016, veterans have been using a portajohn and using the barn (without climate control) hot and cold elements but now the new center is a climate-controlled building and has a flushing toilet, along with running hot and cold water.
New Freedom Farm says they are grateful for all the people who made this happen.
"The greatest gift came from local Gold Star Parents David and Becky Lalush, they literally gave every single weekend for the past 48 weekends to this project. David Lalush took vacation days from his regular job to complete this project. The project was a lot of hard work. The building was once used for breeding equines prior to Lois Fritz purchasing the property on December 21, 2015. The existing agriculture building had a new roof with insulation installed, plumbing and many other additions including an office for the founder Lois Dawn Fritz who once used a spare room in her home as the office for New Freedom Farm," they wrote in the release.
