CAMPBELL Co., Va. (WSET) -- A new fieldhouse at Brookville High School is being dedicated to a former principal.
Unfortunately, the new fieldhouse was hit by last week's tornado, leaving a hole in the building's roof and a bit of water damage in the ceiling.
It's going to be dedicated to the late Jim Whorley, a long-time principal at Brookville who passed away in 2008 during a boating accident.
The building took a total of six years to build.
The new fieldhouse is complete with three new locker rooms, new bathrooms, and an area for athletic trainers.
The building was 100-percent funded through donations from local families, businesses, and alumni totaling almost half a million dollars.
They say it's clear Whorley and Brookville High School hold a special place in everyone's heart.
"And I think, the donations, the support, the continued support is evidence of Jim's impact on this community as a leader and as a principal," said Tom Cole, Brookville's current principal.
Cole said it's still usable with the tornado damage, but they'll have to put in a little bit more work after the recent damage.
The building was dedicated at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
