Nelson County playground opens up in memory of teen killed in crash

The new playground built in Whitney Faith's honor.

NELSON Co., Va. (WSET) -- A new playground in Nelson County has been dedicated to Whitney Faith, a teenager who died in a car crash in 2015.

Faith was just 16-years-old when she passed away, leaving behind a goal to build a playground for kids in Nelson County.

A few months before her death, Faith was crowned Miss Nelson. According to her mom Jeannie Loving, Faith said she wanted to build a playground for the kids of Nelson County.

"I was overwhelmed by what she said, but said 'okay.,'" Loving said.

After her death on July 9, 2015, Loving used Faith's first few paychecks to put towards the park. They also sold t-shirts to raise money.

Loving then met with a pastor from The Well Church who was planning to build a playground and their plans fell into place.

"I know Whitney would absolutely love knowing her playground is here," she said.

Loving said the playground isn't fully finished yet. They still want to add a fence, landscaping, a merry-go-round and more. Loving said they are trying to fund-raise more money to do that.

You can bring your kids to the playground at 7995 Thomas Nelson Hwy, Lovingston.
