ME: Two-year-old accidentally drowned at Smith Mountain Lake
BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Medical Examiner in Roanoke has completed the autopsy of a little boy who was found dead in Smith Mountain Lake last week.
They said two-year-old August Farley died from drowning and ruled his death an accident.
August was reported missing around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5 after his parents said he disappeared around 6 a.m.
The family said they are from Fort Worth, Texas and have family in Radford, where they were headed after eating breakfast at Smith Mountain Lake that morning.
Virginia State Police has brought in a helicopter and the Bedford Fire Department has sent their drone to assist in the search.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Office said divers found August's body around 1 p.m. near a dock at the end of Rosewood Lane.
