ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WKRC) - A lucky Virginia man won the lottery 20 times over after purchasing 20 tickets with the exact same numbers online.
William Newell says he recently decided to switch from buying tickets in-store to online, and in a seemingly unusual strategy, bought 20 tickets with the numbers "5411."
One week later, he was informed that he won $5,000 per ticket, leading to a total prize of $100,000.
Newell, who is retired, says he doesn't have plans yet for how he's going to use the money, but that he's ecstatic nonetheless.
"It feels good, no doubt about it!" he said.
"Virginians have really taken to the convenience of playing the lottery from their smartphones, tablets, or computers," said Kevin Hall, the Virginia Lottery executive director. "The lottery is constantly looking for innovative and convenient ways to meet customer expectations, while also providing lots of opportunities for our players to imagine the possibilities of a winning moment."
Newell isn't the only lottery winner to make headlines recently. In October, man in Canada won $16 million USD after buying a lottery ticket in August and initially forgetting about it for two months.
And in September, a woman won two $2 million prizes after buying two winning tickets on the same day.
