Man charged with stealing truck, eluding police in Campbell Co.
GLADYS, Va. (WSET) - The Campbell County Sheriff's Office says a man is charged with eluding police and grand larceny after a police chase December 1.
According to the sheriff's office, Colby Ayers, 28, was seen driving a truck that'd been reported stolen from Evington.
Major L.T. Guthrie says a 911 caller reported the sighting around 4 p.m., and the truck was then seen by a Brookneal Police officer at the Naruna Mini Mart about 15 minutes later.
Officials say that officer tried to block the truck, but it was able to get onto Route 501.
That officer pursued the truck onto Long Island Road and Collins Ferry Road until a Campbell County joined in.
The sheriff's office says law enforcement chased the truck about two miles down Collins Ferry Road before Ayers lost control, drove into a field, and crashed.
They say Ayers fled the scene, and was arrested just after 7 p.m. on Marysville Road.
Ayers is being held at the Campbell County Adult Detention Center without bond.
He's charged with eluding police and grand larceny of a vehicle.
