RINGGOLD, Va. (WSET) -- A massive fire is raging in Pittsylvania County as of 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

Multiple fire crews from Pittsylvania County and beyond responded to the First Piedmont Waste Solutions landfill at 1224 Clarks Mill Road in Ringgold at around 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses who live nearby say small fires happen at the facility every summer, but this is the worst one they have witnessed.

They say the the fire is right in their backyard, and tons of people were walking through their yard to get a glimpse of the blaze.

At one point they say the fire seemed to be blowing towards their home, and they thought they heard things blowing up.

Since the peak of the fire, crews have been working to contain it, and appear to have made some process.

The same witnesses said they could feel the heat from the fire all the way to their house.

But, they say they don't feel in danger of the blaze at this point.

This is a developing story. Check back here for more details.
