Lynchburg Turkey Trot offering those who would rather snooze a way to help

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The Lynchburg Turkey Trot for HumanKind is about a week away.

Before the football games, the big meal, the parades, and of course, the pies, you can get a little exercise in with a few thousand other people by running a 5K on Thanksgiving, beginning at 8 a.m.

Also, you'll be helping people in the community.

Proceeds from the race benefits the programs of HumanKind, which provide a broad range of services that foster the social, mental, and financial well-being of families and individuals.

When you register, you have several different categories to choose from this year.

The 5K is $25, the 5K walk is $25, the assisted participant 5K is $15, and the 5K youth for runners under 12-years-old is $15.

The start and finish lines are on Langhorne Road in front of E.C. Glass High School, you will run through Murrell Road, Lakeside Drive, Judith Street, Alleghany Avenue, then back down Lakeside Drive, Murrell Road, and Langhorne Road.

The registration guarantees your spot at the start line, plus a t-shirt if you register by Wednesday, November 15, and you better act fast because the price is going up starting November 19.

But there's an extra category this year.

It's called the sleep-in, and it's $25.

If you are going to be out of town, cooking, or prefer to snooze instead of lace up your running shoes, this event is for you.

You do get a t-shirt if you register by November 15.

This is for those who would like to help out, but would rather stay at home or can't make it.

If you're looking for where to park, HumanKind provided a map that you can view below:
