LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Humane Society welcomed twenty-one beagles to their center last Thursday.
These beagles came from Envigo, a breeding facility located in Cumberland Virginia that sold dogs to testing facilities.
Envigo is in the process of being shut down after many animal welfare concerns were uncovered the society said.

Arriving at the society the beagles received lots of love and attention, and they even played outside.
It took the dogs some time to come out of their shells the society said but once they did they were happy dogs.
The dogs all had medical exams and were being treated for Coccidia, which can be caused by stress the society said.

The society said they are happy to report that seventeen of these precious beagles either have very interested adopters or have been placed on hold for their adoptable home.
There are four beagles still left for adoption the society said.
The society will be going back to Cumberland later this month to save more beagles from the facility.
"Despite any challenges, we are dedicated to working to make this next group of beagles as comfortable and happy as possible" the society said.

The next rescue may require more care, both medical and emotional because those dogs have been at the breeding facility the longest.
