Lynchburg Fire Dept. Captain receives governor's award

Cpt. Candace Brown of the Lynchburg Fire Dept. is this year's recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Prehospital Provider in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The award recognizes an outstanding person that supports emergency medical care in Virginia.

Brown has been at the department for 13 years and serves as the EMS Training Officer.

“Candace is a positive role model and an influential leader in the community as well as in the Lynchburg Fire Department,” Fire Chief Greg Wormser said. “Her experience and thoughtfulness are just two of the many reasons she is respected by her colleagues.”

Most recently, Brown served as an Advanced Practice Paramedic EMS supervisor in the Operations Division. She is also involved with a variety of department and community initiatives including performing as a preceptor, mentor, instructor, child passenger safety seat technician, and is an Adjunct Instructor in Physical Education at Randolph College.

Brown is the third Lynchburg Fire Dept. member to receive this award in the past six years.
