Lynchburg 4th graders help homeless children in India

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Some Lynchburg 4th graders are helping kids a world away.

Michael Christmas, a 4th grade teacher at Dearington Elementary, is getting his students involved in making treasure boxes.

The boxes will be sent to India to help children who recently lost everything in a fire that roared through a slum.

This is all accomplished through the Big World Project.

The boxes are being turned in Thursday, and will get to the roughly 400 homeless children affected by the fire.

Christmas says this project showed him the kids have real empathy, and want to help.
