Local organizations' 'Rucksgiving' provides food to families for the holiday
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Impact Living Services and the Lynchburg Area Counselors Association organized 'Rucksgiving', a food drive where participants gathered and carried items by sled.
Participants arrived at Kroger on Boonsboro Road Saturday morning to bring and fill backpacks with non-perishable canned foods.
They then rucked (carrying items with a weighted backpack) the items over two miles to Miriam's House to give to residents who do not have access to items to prepare a family-style Thanksgiving meal.
Impact Living Services plans to offer a 'Rucksmas' event that will involve pulling sleds of food and toys to donate.
