BUCHANAN, Va. (WSET) -- New Freedom Farms in Buchanan is home for 19 horses saved from slaughter houses, who now serve a greater purpose.

The farm was founded by Lois Fritz in 2016 after she found relief from her own personal experience with PTSD after spending time with her horses, according to the organization's website.

New Freedom Farm is a non-profit that works with veterans, to help them cope with PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and secondary trauma.

The farm is run purely off donations and there is no charge to veterans who are seeking help.

Visitors are also welcome by appointment.

The farm has several events coming up including its third annual free Thanksgiving meal November 22 at 2 p.m.

The meal is held in the barn and focuses on our veterans.

They ask for you to RSVP so there is enough food for everyone.
