LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A Liberty University student was killed in a tragic accident while riding his bike on Thursday.
According to Crosspoint Church in Lynchburg, Josiah Fowler was hit by a driver while riding his bike and had to be airlifted to Roanoke.
The church later wrote that Fowler had passed away.

During Liberty University's 2023 Commencement service, Fowler's name did not appear during the In Memorial portion of the service. However, in his closing remarks, Dr. Jerry Prevo, the Interim President of Liberty University, confirmed that Fowler was a student and was killed in an accident.
"Josiah Fowler, a sophomore here at Liberty University, he was killed in an accident just a few days ago. Doctor Jeremiah, would you please remember this family in prayer as you come to close our 2023 Commencement Service?" Prevo said as he concluded his speech.
What led to the accident and whether charges are pending is unknown at this time, but updates will be released as they are received.
