Liberty University opens gun range to students
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Liberty University opened its gun range to students on Tuesday, April 3.
The $3.2 million project includes a rifle, pistol, and three gun ranges that are available for students, the public, and competitions.
LU planning coordinator Brad Butler says they worked with experts from the NRA and other sources to make sure it was as safe as possible.
He believes it's one of the safest gun ranges in the country.
Butler says many students see the gun range as an extracurricular activity.
"President Falwell's commitment to the second amendment, I think is very profound, he's not just saying it in words, or saying it in terms of the political activism, he's putting his money where his mouth is," Butler said.
It should be open to the public in about six- eight weeks.
