Kings Dominion to change name of landmark Rebel Yell roller coaster
DOSWELL, Va. (WSET) -- Kings Dominion announced that they are changing the name of the classic wooden "Rebel Yell" to "Racer 75."
WTVR reports that the new name gives recognition to the ACE, the American Coaster Enthusiasts (rACEr) which was founded in 1978.
The number 75 represents the year the Rebel Yell opened in the park, which was 1975.
Rebel Yell is a Confederate-inspired nickname that was named for the historic Rebel Yell, which was a battle cry used by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.
In addition to the name change, Kings Dominion will also be doing construction on the ride.
“We will continue to replace sections of the track on this classic wooden coaster as a commitment to maintaining the iconic ride,” they said on their website.
The Rebel Yell is one of Kings Dominion's most popular attractions and is known for having two separate tracks that are parallel to one another.
