Kindergartner killed in sledding accident, "Aaron will be missed"
AXTON, Va. (WSET) -- A kindergartner has died after a sledding accident at his home in Axton.
Aaron Frias-Alvarez, 6, went sledding in his yard when he slid into Old Liberty Drive and underneath the vehicle of a 73-year-old driver.
Virginia State Police said Frias-Alvarez was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police said the 73-year-old driver stopped and stayed at the scene, and was not injured.
Family members were too distraught to discuss what happened, but friends were there to offer comfort and support and showed up at the boy's house to help clean or cook, whatever the family needed at this time, they said.
The six-year-old is also being mourned by his classmates at Mt. Olivet Elementary.
The school issued a statement saying, "the Mt. Olivet Elementary family is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our students. Aaron will be missed by his classmates and school family."
State police said the crash is still under investigation, and no charges will be filed.
