Incoming University of Virginia president to start sooner
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The University of Virginia’s next president has moved up his start date.
The Daily Progress cites an email Jim Ryan sent to faculty and students Monday announcing he’ll take over from Teresa A. Sullivan on Aug. 1, instead of Oct. 1, as originally planned when he signed his contract in September.
He had attributed the October start date to a family member’s health and his son’s final year of high school, but said he felt after conversations with the Board of Visitors and his family that starting immediately after Sullivan’s July 31 departure would be best.
The email also said Chief Operating Officer Pat Hogan will retire in June 2019, while provost Tom Katsouleas will continue in his role until a replacement is found, instead of stepping down in May.
