Human remains found near vehicle of missing Pittsylvania Co. man
FRANKLIN Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said the remains of a Pittsylvania County man, reported missing on October 23 have been found.
The sheriff's office said family reported Eric Dean Guthrie, 56, missing to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
A Franklin County man said he found an abandoned pickup truck on land he leases near the intersection of Snow Creek Road and Meeks Road on November 1.
Franklin County deputies responded and determined the vehicle belonged to Guthrie.
Investigators searched the area for Guthrie, but didn't find him.
Deputies went out to search again early Friday morning near where Guthrie's vehicle was found and they said human remains were found about half a mile from the vehicle.
The remains have been sent to the forensic lab in Roanoke for identification.
The sheriff's office said there was no evidence of foul play at the scene.
Further information will be released once the results of the examination and identification of the body has been completed.
