Hoop Don't Shoot celebrates one year anniversary
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) - Hoop Don't Shoot in Danville celebrated its one year anniversary on Saturday by honoring the youth its helped.
Kids from all over the city were given trophies as they celebrated the program at River Oak Church.
They had food, speakers, a rapping performance and of course, some time to shoot hoops.
Hoop Don't Shoot Founder Angie Dixon said it warms her heart to see all these kids trying to turn their lives around.
Dixon said her program has helped change so many.
"So much more than basketball. It's a way out. It's brighter futures. They graduating and there are ones going into the army. They changing at home. They're better kids to their parents," Dixon said.
Angie Dixon said she hopes to keep empowering youth in the area to do good things and pursue their education.
