Hollins University community mourn professor's death

ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) - The Hollins University community is mourning the loss of a professor.

According to the university, Caren Diefenderfer, a math professor passed away.

University President Nancy Gray says Diefenderfer came to the school in 1977 and has had "a profound impact as an outstanding teacher, and most importantly, as an individual."

Diefenderfer won the University Distinguished Service Award, the Herta T. Freitag Faculty Award, Roberta A. Stewart Service Award, and the Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award.

The university says a memorial service is being planned.
