Gleaning for the World collects supplies for victims of Hurricane Michael

Gleaning for the World plans to send truckload of donations to Hurricane Michael victims.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -People affected by Hurricane Michael will be getting assistance from a group right here at home.

Gleaning for the World has been collecting donations all on Thursday.

As soon as you get to Sam's Club members are handed a list of disaster relief items for victims of Hurricane Michael.

Mostly non-perishable food items, pet food, baby food, and personal care items.

They are also collecting monetary donations.

Right now, they are most in need of baby supplies.

Teresa Davis is the Communications Director for Gleaning for the World.

She said whether you are donating a full cart of supplies or a dollar, every donation counts.

"We've had disasters in our area, we've had the Derecho, we've had tornadoes, and people from all over have donated to us, so it's so nice to see the community of Lynchburg and surrounding areas donating to those in need right now," said Davis.

After the storm passes they will assess the damage but most likely will be sending it to Florida and Georgia by early next week.

They will be collecting supplies outside of Sam's Club through Saturday.
