AMHERST Co., Va. (WSET) -- The sudden passing of 18-year-old Kaylynn Garner has left her classmates and friends overwhelmed with grief.

"I didn't believe it. I called her phone, hoping she was going to answer," said Devin Hendrickson, a friend of Kaylynn's.

Kaylynn was killed in a tragic car accident Monday night on Route 778 near Temperance Elementary School.

Authorities say her car crossed the center line and hit a tractor trailer head-on.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kaylynn's friends are struggling to move forward as they look back at the memories.

"She came in my life at my lowest point and took me in and came in my life and helped me through a lot," Hendrickson said.

"We were talking about how we were going to go to the Rock and celebrate our last little moment before we graduated together, and so, I'll always remember that," said her friend, Jordan Coley.

Her friends say they will remember her as a girl full of jokes.

"The first time I ever met Kay, she told me I was too little to be in middle school, and I was gonna get stepped on. She had a great sense of humor," said Kelsy Mays.

But they say she will always be with them.

"I know when I look up, she's looking down on me," said Hendrickson.

Kaylynn's friends laid items in her memory at her assigned parking spot at Amherst High School.

Her friends are sending their prayers and condolences to the family and say everyone is here to support them.
