A former teacher and administrator is now the man in charge for Roanoke County Public Schools.
The Roanoke County School Board named Dr. Ken Nicely as the new superintendent on Thursday.
Dr. Nicely first joined the school system in 1993 as a teacher at Cave Spring High School.
In 2002, he was named assistant principal at Hidden Valley Middle School, before becoming the principal four years later.
In 2012, Dr. Nicely moved to the central office to become the Director of Secondary Instruction, and then in 2016 he was named the Director of Administration.
In May, he was named the acting superintendent for Roanoke County Public Schools following the retirement of Dr. Greg Killough.
Dr. Nicely holds degrees from the College of William & Mary, the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.
