LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The president of Liberty University, Jerry Falwell Jr., got to be with President Donald Trump at an election night watch party.

He says Ivanka Trump's husband, Jared Kushner, called him up to give him a formal invite to the White House.

Jerry and his wife, Becki, say watching the results with Trump and his supporters was like watching a football game.

Falwell also asked the president to congratulate Ben Cline over the phone when he won Virginia's 6th congressional district seat.

" [President Trump] congratulated Ben," Falwell said. "Someone who was there says Ben's eyes got huge and he was thrilled about it."

The Falwell's say that was the first time they were with the President on Election Day.

"It was just an honor," Becki said. "There was a small group of people really close friends; it was a very exciting group. They were the ones who were around and supported him all along."
