Ed Hawkins to close after serving Lynchburg for 50 years

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- After 50 years in Lynchburg, the appliance store, Ed Hawkins will be closing up shop.

The owner will be 78-years-old this year and he says it's time to retire.

Ed Hawkins originally opened in 1968. The store specializes in household appliances like refrigerators, microwaves and their parts.

The store has started its liquidation sale to get rid of everything they have left.

The owner say closing his store is bittersweet.

"I will really miss our customers," said Larry Arrington. "They have been loyal to us all these years and we're the only independent in Lynchburg."

The store will officially be closed after May 15.

The Altavista Appliance Company will be taking over the business and will reopen under the name "Hailey's Appliance Company."
