Danville businesses give back to make customers' holidays special
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- Local businesses are giving back to their customers and families who need it most for the upcoming holidays.
Riverside Pawn is giving away 200 turkeys or more between their six store locations in Southern Virginia and North Carolina.
Tony Gunter came in to buy his son a birthday gift at the Riverside Pawn on Piney Forest Road, but was also given a gift in return.
"While in here... I've been a loyal customer, I get offered a turkey and a turkey would fit well this time of year for our family," Gunter said. "I got a family of six."
Chad and Shane Hardway, who are brothers and co-owners of Riverside Pawn, said they are giving the turkeys to some of their most loyal customers, as well as those who may really need one this year.
The brothers said their company has been giving away turkeys for nearly a decade.
"From the people I've talked to it seems like people really like Thanksgiving because it's just a good time with family," Shane Hardway said. "It's not all the hustle and bustle of the other holidays, so I think we enjoy it more, so we are just trying to help others enjoy it as well."
If you know someone who you think deserves a turkey for Thanksgiving contact Riverside Pawn at firstname.lastname@example.org by November 21st. Most of the turkeys will be dispersed on the 22nd.
In addition, Ballad Brewing is planning on donating 10% of their Sunday sales to local food banks in Danville. They are also collecting food items to donate to the food banks as well.
"We've [also] set up a little food donations section," head brewer and operations manager John Andorfer said. "We'll drop off some food... customers can leave food items."
Andorfer said they will be taking donations for the remainder of the year.
