Danville Animal Shelter flooded, local state of emergency declared
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- The Danville Animal Shelter has flooded due to the excessive rain in the area.
All of the animals in the flooded areas have been moved to a safer part of the shelter.
If necessary, several veterinary clinics have been willing to let animals evacuate to their facilities.
Residents who are willing to help with clean up are asked to call 434-799-5306 after 9:00 a.m. Friday.
The City of Danville has also declared a local State of Emergency due to the excessive rates of rainfall and gusty winds that has left streets flooded throughout the city and produced fallen trees and power outages.
Residents and visitors are urged to take precaution, do not attempt to travel unless necessary, and if they do travel, then do not drive through flooded streets or go near downed power lines.
